I have never ever thought of being in Africa in this very
near time frame. But thanks to MSc Conservation and Biodiversity at University
of Exeter and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (my sponsorship) this was possible.
I have to say my start for 2013 was a blast!! The 14 days in
Kenya was amazing. The tropical weather reminded me of Malaysia and the
biodiversity are to die for! I have learnt a lot and the experiences gained was
really worth it! The snow was just a great ending for this amazing trip! Kenya
I will be back, and that's a promise!
Being a Malaysian, we do not require a visa to enter Kenya.
However, we are only given 30 days stay per visit. Prior the departure, there
were many things to do but the most importance was the yellow fever shot. I took
mine at the Penryn GP and it has a validity for 10 years! It is also compulsory
to have malaria tablets before getting to Kenya which I went with Doxycycline.
As this was a field trip for my master course there were
lots of preparation needed. I’ve packed just a 60L backpack and I’ve brought
along lots of camping gear as we will be staying in tents for the entire 14
days. Apart from that staying fit was also a big essential as there will be
lots of physical activities.
There was a total of 60 participants joining this Kenya
Trip. We departed super early by coach from Tremough Campus to Heathrow Airport
Terminal 4 where we arrived the airport 4 hours before departure. The
university had booked us all on Kenya Airways Flight 101 on the 1900HRS flight.
Flight time was 8 ½ hours and Kenya time is 2 hours ahead from the UK.
